The story
Five kilometres from the harbour of West-Terschelling, just outside the village of Midsland, ’t Golfje occupies a traditional Terschellinger farmhouse. The dining room looks out over the polder, the dunes and the restaurant’s own vegetable garden – a setting that encourages guests to slow down and enjoy.
Kik and Frans run the place as a two-person team. Frans works the kitchen, while Kik acts as host and sommelier, guiding guests through an extensive wine list. They describe their restaurant as a “huiskamerrestaurant” – a living-room restaurant – and the atmosphere is intentionally intimate and relaxed.
The menu changes with the seasons and is built around the best ingredients available. ’t Golfje serves a single tasting menu to all guests, prepared in the classical French tradition. Recent dishes include sea bass with elderflower and cucumber, cod with fennel and beurre blanc, and a raviolo filled with black truffle and Terschelling porcini mushrooms. A cheese course from Kaasfort Amsterdam is available as a supplement.
Vegetarian preferences or intolerances can be noted at the time of booking; the menu is adapted in advance rather than changed on the evening itself. The kitchen works without a large team, which allows Kik and Frans to focus entirely on the guest experience.
’t Golfje has earned a place in the Michelin guide, recommended for its quality and consistency. The restaurant is also recognised by Gault&Millau and Lekker. For those seeking Modern French cuisine on the Wadden island of Terschelling, this farmhouse restaurant offers a personal, unhurried evening built around honest, skilfully prepared food.
