The story
At Betong, located in the Operagata district of Oslo, Chef Jonathan Hagen brings a clear, principled approach to modern cuisine. The kitchen operates on a zero-waste philosophy, letting seasonal ingredients dictate the menu without compromise. Every component is used with intention, resulting in dishes that are both sustainable and striking.
Betong offers a choice of two tasting menus: an eight-course journey at 1050 NOK or a five-course option at 795 NOK. Each can be paired with a carefully selected wine flight—1050 NOK for the full pairing, 750 NOK for the smaller version. The food is rooted in modern cuisine, with vegetarian and pescatarian options available upon request. For a more casual visit, the adjacent wine bar, Lillebetong, serves an à la carte menu and is open for walk-ins Tuesday through Saturday.
Betong has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its thoughtful cooking and clear culinary identity. The space is relaxed yet focused, with an interesting wine list that complements the seasonal tasting menus. Whether you settle in for the full eight courses or drop by the wine bar for a glass and a bite, the experience is grounded in respect for ingredients and craft.
