The story
Vaaghals opened in 2014 in Oslo’s Barcode district, offering a fresh take on Scandinavian cuisine. The kitchen builds on Norwegian traditions and ingredients, adding continental touches. The result is a series of seasonal sharing menus designed for the table.
Owner and chef Jørn Lie brings years of experience from some of Norway’s finest restaurants. Head chef Christer Rødseth, one of the country’s most prominent chefs, combines traditional flavors with modern techniques. Together with restaurant manager and sommelier Jacopo Righetti, they craft meals that are both memorable and meant to be shared.
Co-owners include Norwegian icons Arne Brimi, Bjørn Dæhlie, Arne Hjeltnes, and Vegard Ulvang, united by a passion for Norwegian nature, sustainability, and unique experiences.
Vaaghals has earned a place on the Michelin Recommended list for 2026, a nod to its consistent quality and thoughtful approach to Scandinavian dining. The focus on local produce from sea and land, presented in a warm, social setting, makes it a standout in Oslo’s restaurant scene.
The menu changes with the seasons. Lunches and dinners are available Tuesday through Saturday, with a Saturday brunch as well. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, centered on the idea of genuine social enjoyment of food.
