The story

Fisherman Sopot by Rafał Koziorzemski – Michelin Recommended Seafood in Gdańsk

Fisherman by Rafał Koziorzemski

In Sopot, a short walk from the Gdańsk coast, Fisherman is a restaurant that rethinks Polish seafood. Chef Rafał Koziorzemski, an award-winning chef with international accolades including the Transgourmet Chefs en Or 2023, leads a kitchen that starts each day at dawn. The team personally selects the freshest products from local markets and forages wild herbs—bear garlic, wood sorrel, wild rocket, and field flowers—to garnish each plate.

The name Fisherman is a tribute to the daily labour of Poland’s fishermen. But this is not a place for fried fish and chips. The menu is a refined, contemporary take on Polish home cooking: classics that surprise. Every dish is built from absolute scratch using only fresh, seasonal ingredients. There is no room for frozen produce. The kitchen follows a zero-waste ethos, using 100% of every product in homage to regional traditions.

Standout starters include the “kultowy tatar z pstrąga tęczowego” – a cult rainbow trout tartare with mustard, yolk, capers, pickled onion, and mushrooms – and the “paprykarz sopocki by Fisherman”, a local twist on the classic fish spread, served with scallop, foie gras, and rice. The “pierożki” with orłoryba (sturgeon) and homemade ponzu showcase the kitchen’s precision.

Fisherman’s dining rooms are warm and elegant, designed to host everything from intimate dinners to private celebrations. The restaurant offers private rooms, outdoor seating, and catering services.

Michelin recognised Fisherman with a Recommended award, confirming its place among Poland’s most serious seafood destinations. It is a restaurant that honours the past while cooking for the present.

Interior and Atmosphere Fisherman is a restaurant located in the coastal strip of Sopot. It is furnished simply, somewhat in a tavern style – sea tones, grays, white, and light wood dominate the space; large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the interior during the day. In addition to the main dining room – where you should take note of the striking fish-scale-patterned bar and the wall displaying the head chef’s diplomas (a guarantee that it will be delicious!) – there is also a glass-enclosed patio. The restaurant’s garden terrace is covered, which means that even on rainy days during the season, you can dine outdoors. Cuisine and Chef This restaurant is an excellent destination for lovers of unconventional flavors. The foundation of Head Chef Rafał Koziorzemski’s seasonal signature menu is Polish cuisine. On the short but diverse and interesting menu, you will find both fresh fish and seafood from trusted suppliers, as well as game meats or dishes based on seasonal ingredients, often foraged from nearby meadows or forests. Service and Occasions A flavorful rainbow trout tartare sits alongside a soup made from fermented sorrel, served with potato puree and a melt-in-your-mouth confit egg yolk. Among the main courses, alongside three types of fish, you will find rabbit and venison dishes, and for vegans, for example, asparagus in a delicate brown butter sauce. Desserts are absolutely classic but surprise with unconventional presentations or accompaniments – and it is always a pleasant surprise. For those who cannot decide on just one dish, Fisherman offers a tasting menu – featuring six or nine courses. It is worth highlighting that the well-trained, friendly, and professional staff can engagingly and knowledgeably discuss the chef’s culinary concepts and are highly proficient in navigating both the menu and the extensive wine list.
