The story
Restauracja Starka has occupied a historic tenement building along the Oder river in Opole since 1999. The family established this dining space to share their heritage through regional Polish cooking. Guests sit roughly two hundred fifty meters from the main market while watching the water flow past the glassed terrace opened in 2011. This location anchors the restaurant within Opole’s oldest quarter, where the Gault&Millau guide recently recognized the establishment for its consistent approach to local ingredients and hospitality.
The name itself translates to grandmother in the local dialect, which directly inspired the central banquet hall design. White tablecloths cover the surfaces while framed family photographs hang against bleached walls that recall an interwar living room. Visitors seeking a different pace can choose the rustic Bavarian style dining area featuring heavy wooden benches and an original Prussian brick wall. Air conditioning runs through the interior spaces, keeping the climate comfortable regardless of the season.
The kitchen builds its menu around Silesian cuisine and straightforward Polish cooking traditions. Seasonal highlights frequently feature white asparagus prepared in multiple styles, ranging from a simple cream soup to a young beef steak finished with truffle oil and roasted potato dumplings. Classic plates like beef rolls stuffed with bacon, cucumber, and onion remain steady favorites alongside darker sauces and traditional Silesian dishes. These preparations reflect the guiding principle of returning guests to the comforting routines of older generations.
