1911 Restaurant in Sopot: A Bib Gourmand Farewell to Modern Cuisine

The Story

1911 Restaurant once occupied a corner of ul. Grunwaldzka in Sopot, a city on the Baltic coast. From its kitchen came a modern cuisine guided by deep respect for both the ingredient and the guest. The team described their approach as the result of years of accumulated knowledge: sourcing the highest-quality components, often those forgotten or demanding to work with, yet brimming with hidden potential. Their menu was built on "składnikach najwyższej jakości, często tych zapomnianych, trudnych w obróbce, skrywających niesamowity potencjał i smak."

The cooking here rejected templates. Instead, it delighted in details, played with flavor, broke structures and conventions. The chefs aimed to surprise, to evoke childhood memories, and to focus on the minute touches that make a plate sing. With care for detail, playfulness, and a break from patterns, each dish was full of imagination. Alongside a permanent carte, weekend inserts and lunch menus offered a release of culinary spontaneity – an invitation to get to know the kitchen through taste, which "wyraża więcej niż słowa."

Recognition

This philosophy earned 1911 Restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, an award that celebrates good quality, good value cooking. It placed the restaurant among a select group of Polish establishments where generous, skilled cooking meets accessible pricing. The Bib Gourmand was a natural fit: the restaurant’s entire ethos was about making extraordinary flavours approachable and honest.

A Grateful Goodbye

On 31 April 2026, 1911 Restaurant closed its doors permanently. In a heartfelt message on their homepage, the team wrote: "Z całego serca dziękujemy naszym Gościom za lata wsparcia i obecności. Zamykamy ten rozdział z wdzięcznością i pięknymi wspomnieniami. Dziękujemy!" – "From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our guests for years of support and presence. We close this chapter with gratitude and beautiful memories. Thank you." The restaurant may be gone, but its mark – a Bib Gourmand table serving thoughtful modern cuisine in Sopot – remains a chapter worth remembering.
