The story
In the heart of Warsaw, Gulu Gulu brings the spirit of Taiwan’s indigenous culinary and musical traditions to Europe. This aboriginal live music restaurant, recognized in the Michelin guide, offers a vibrant atmosphere where every night feels like a celebration.
The menu is a creative exploration of Taiwanese aboriginal cuisine, using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Start with the Paiwan’s Rice Dumpling – a golden millet dumpling wrapped in leaves, or the grilled wild boar (石板烤山豬肉), a signature dish cooked on a hot stone plate. The chef’s salads, like the shrimp salad and檳榔花 (betel nut flower) salad, offer refreshing contrasts.
Main courses showcase the depth of Taiwanese cooking. Hearty soups are a specialty, from the巫醫南瓜湯 (Shaman Pumpkin Soup) – a whole pumpkin roasted and simmered for restorative flavor – to the fragrant马告鸡汤 (Maqaw chicken soup), infused with the indigenous mountain pepper known as maqaw. Steamed crab and braised pork ribs with roselle require advance notice, hinting at serious, slow-cooked fare. For a modern twist, the grilled wild boar pizza and free-range chicken sandwich bridge tradition and comfort.
Live music is central to Gulu Gulu’s identity. Every evening from 7 to 9 PM, well-known aboriginal singers perform, transforming dinner into a dynamic cultural experience. Guests can enjoy creative cocktails – the "Momojiang" is a peach-colored favorite, while the mojitos come in various flavors like passion fruit and pomegranate. Happy hour runs weekdays from 5 to 7 PM with a buy-one-get-one beer deal.
Whether it’s a casual night out with live bands or a custom celebration, Gulu Gulu serves Taiwanese cuisine and culture in a warm, lively setting.
