The story
In a city with a rich culinary scene, IDA kuchnia i wino has quickly become a destination for those seeking thoughtful, seasonal Polish cooking. Located in a historic tenement on Łazienna Street — the former home of the legendary jazz club Rura — the restaurant occupies a space that feels both grounded and ambitious. Its Michelin Bib Gourmand award, recognizing good quality, good value cooking, confirms what regulars already know: this is a kitchen that delivers.
The team is led by chef Małgorzata, who previously worked at the three-Michelin-starred Core by Clare Smyth in London, alongside Rafał, whose résumé includes time with Gordon Ramsay and as head chef at the Zamek Topacz restaurant. Together with Krzysztof and Marcin, they form a tight-knit crew that brings professional polish to every plate. Their motto, as Krzysztof puts it: “Cook for others as you would for yourself and your friends.”
At IDA, the kitchen is open — literally. Guests can watch the team at work while enjoying a menu that draws on the flavours of Polish childhood and tradition, but reworked with modern precision. Dishes change with the seasons, but guests consistently praise the mushroom soup, the beetroot dumplings with oyster mushrooms and kale, and the legendary żurek (sour rye soup). The short menu is intentional: fewer dishes mean each one can be refined. Desserts, including a fondant described by one guest as “stairs to heaven,” and the tatara and pierogi are also standouts.
Wine is taken seriously here. The selection leans heavily on Polish vineyards, offering unexpected pairings that go beyond the usual red-with-meat rule. The team explains each dish as it arrives — where the ingredients come from, why it tastes the way it does — turning a meal into a conversation.
The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, with an industrial-meets-cozy interior of stone and glass. A private room is available for intimate celebrations, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible with vegetarian options on the menu. Whether you’re stopping by before a show at the neighbouring Wrocław Contemporary Theatre or making it the sole reason for your evening, IDA is a place where Polish cuisine feels both familiar and new.
