The story
Herdade dos Grous sits on a 1,100-hectare estate in the heart of Alentejo, near Beja and 170 km from Lisbon. Born in 2004, this wine and agrotourism property is a refuge of olive groves, cork forests, and vineyards. The restaurant, with seating for 90, offers a true farm-to-fork experience, favouring organic produce grown on the farm.
Under the hand of chef Luis Rocha, the kitchen celebrates the region’s culinary heritage. The menu ranges from the simplicity of bread and vegetable soup to aromatic rustic stews, all made with organic herbs and vegetables from the estate. The team combines traditional methods with contemporary flair. This commitment to authentic Alentejo cuisine has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
The Wine Bar invites guests to enjoy exclusive wine tastings paired with regionally inspired tapas – artisanal bread, cheese, and cold cuts – all with a panoramic view of the surroundings. Seasonal gastronomic weeks, such as the Açorda menu (a hearty bread soup) from October to November and the Tomatada menu (a savory tomato dish) in June, highlight the estate’s dedication to local flavours.
