In the heart of the Bairrada region, in Cantanhede, Marquês de Marialva has been a family affair since 1975. The restaurant is a living tribute to traditional Portuguese cooking, rooted in the local landscape. The founders set out to serve authentic dishes where each recipe tells a story, and every ingredient celebrates the richness of the land. Now in its second generation, the commitment remains the same: honest, regional food that speaks of place.

The Bairrada Table

The menu is a careful selection of dishes that highlight the Bairrada region’s culinary wealth. Starters range from simple Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato to a Bandeja de Entradas À Marquês – a sharing platter that showcases local cured meats and cheeses. Fish and seafood appear in Arroz de Robalo Selvagem and grilled Robalo Selvagem Grelhado, while meat lovers find Chanfana à Bairrada (goat stew) and Cabrito Assado à Padeiro. For dessert, the Miminhos do Marquês brings together several traditional sweets – Doce Marialva, Toucinho do Céu, and Pastel de Nata – in one tasting plate. The kitchen also offers a fixed Menu Marquês de Marialva that includes a flute of sparkling wine, cold and hot starters, a main course from the carte, and a dessert selection.

The restaurant’s dedication to quality and value has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that matches the generous, straightforward cooking. The setting is intimate and refined, with space for private events – up to 80 guests on the ground floor, 300 on the first floor. Parking is available, and the atmosphere remains warm, unpretentious, and focused on the table.
