The story
Since 2017, Cavalariça has occupied a converted stable in the village of Comporta, transforming the former horse stalls into intimate dining spaces. The name itself—Portuguese for "stable"—pays homage to the building’s past while signalling a new chapter in the region’s culinary story. Acknowledged by the Michelin Guide since 2024, the restaurant weaves a deep respect for Alentejo’s terroir into every dish.
The kitchen’s philosophy is rooted in the biodiversity of the surrounding landscape. Ingredients are sourced with care: organic vegetables from Grândola, fresh fish from Sesimbra, oysters from the Sado estuary, and meat raised with environmental and animal welfare values. Each plate tells a story of the region’s coastal and rural heritage, from the sea to the soil. The result is a contemporary cuisine that is refined yet grounded, celebrating local producers and the abundance of the Alentejo.
The restaurant’s setting—a former stable with original stall divisions—creates naturally intimate corners for dining. The atmosphere reflects the character of Comporta itself: sophisticated but unhurried, with a warmth that makes both regulars and first-time visitors feel at home. The service style is described as “refined but relaxed,” matching the elevated yet unpretentious experience. Here, time slows down, and a meal becomes a memory built on detail and flavour.
