The story
At Gazebo, Chef Filipe Janeiro invites you into his family’s century-old Madeiran Quinta in Funchal. The setting is intimate and personal — a place where the chef’s enthusiasm for food is palpable. “Please feel at home,” the website reads, and the invitation is sincere.
The kitchen works with a seasonal mindset, drawing on produce from the Quinta’s own gardens and ingredients from small producers across the island. The tasting menu spans six to nine dishes, showcasing the best of Madeira’s land and sea. A vegan menu is available, and diners can enhance their meal with a wine pairing or choose from the curated wine list. The Michelin guide has recognised Gazebo with a Recommended status, a testament to the precision and care in every plate.
Gazebo offers more than a standard dinner. Private dining events accommodate groups up to 30, with a choice of tasting menu or cocktail dinatoire. There is also a Supperclub Experience — a communal table where guests share a five-moment tasting menu kept as a surprise until the evening unfolds. Those interested can subscribe to the newsletter for advance notice of these special dates.
Bookings are required from Tuesdays to Saturdays, with service starting at 19:30. The small family business asks for patience during off-hours, but the response is swift. Whether you come for the tasting menu, a private celebration, or a seat at the communal table, Gazebo offers a genuine slice of contemporary Madeiran hospitality.
