The story

Las Dos Manos, Lisbon – Chef Kiko's Mexican-Japanese Fusion, Michelin Recommended

The Concept

At Las Dos Manos, Chef Kiko Martins brings together the bold spices of Mexico and the precise techniques of Japan. The result is a menu that moves from tacos to sashimi, with aguachiles, tostadas, and yakitori bridging the two traditions. The restaurant’s own tagline says it plainly: “Cozinha mexicana com alma japonesa” – Mexican cuisine with a Japanese soul.

The Chef

Kiko Martins is one of the most renowned Portuguese chefs, born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Portugal. He is the creative force behind several celebrated Lisbon restaurants – O Talho, A Cevicheria, O Boteco, O Poke, and Le Bleu – each with a distinct identity. At Las Dos Manos, which opened in 2022, he realized a long-held ambition to open a “high level” Mexican restaurant, adding Japanese elegance to the rustic heart of Mexican cooking.

The Food

The menu is built around small plates and shareable dishes. Tacos come with fillings like Magret de Pato and Foie Gras, or “Al Pastor” with Iberico Pork and pineapple. The Aguachiles section features a Braised Salmon with Pineapple and Yuzu, and a Sashimi of Amberjack with Algarve Prawn. A “12 hours” Oxtail Taco appears on the English menu, alongside a Duck Confit and Orange taco. Desserts include a Churro with Dulce de Leche, Lime Granita and Tequila, and a “Spicy” Chocolate cake with Fava Tonka ice cream.

The Bar

The cocktail program is as hybrid as the food. Skilled bartenders combine tequila and mezcal with Japanese spirits. Signature drinks include the Sakurita and Las Dos Manos Sour, mixing the traditions of Mexico and Japan in every glass.

Recognition

Las Dos Manos earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a reflection of the care and creativity in this fusion cuisine. The restaurant’s location in Bairro Alto, a few steps from the Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara, makes it a natural stop for anyone seeking a singular dining experience in Lisbon.
