The story
Antiqvvm occupies the historic building that once housed the Solar do Vinho do Porto, on Rua de Entre Quintas in Porto. The setting is refined yet welcoming, with air conditioning, outdoor seating, and space for private events. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, with reservations required.
Born in Jorjais, Vila Real, Vítor Matos trained in cuisine and pastry in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, between 1992 and 1995. After returning to Portugal, he worked in prestigious kitchens including Estalagem Quinta do Paço, Vidago Palace Hotel, and Casa da Calçada Relais & Châteaux. Since 2015, he has been the chef at Antiqvvm, where he says he gives free rein to his imagination, placing technique, products, and emotion at the heart of his creations. His goal: to provide a unique and unforgettable gastronomic experience.
Matos has received multiple distinctions over his nearly 30-year career, including “Prix Chefs de l’Avenir” from the Académie Internationale de Gastronomie in 2011 and Chef of the Year titles in 2003, 2013, and 2014.
Antiqvvm offers two tasting menus. The first, “De Volta às Origens” (Back to Origins), is priced at €185 and features dishes such as Maçã & Funcho (Apple & Fennel), Burrata & Manjericão (Basil), Arroz & Plâncton (Rice & Plankton), and Queijo Ilha & Cebola (Island Cheese & Onion). The second, “Ensaios Sensoriais” (Sensory Trials), costs €265 and includes Gamba Violeta & Caril (Violet Shrimp & Curry), Lavagante & Manga (Lobster & Mango), Pombo & Café Arábica (Pigeon & Arabica Coffee), and Leite Cremoso & Glorinhas (Creamy Milk & Little Glories). Both menus can be paired with a wine selection for an additional €235. The restaurant indicates that all dishes are prepared in environments that are not completely allergen-free, and guests are advised to inform the team of any allergies.
In 2017, Antiqvvm received its first Michelin star. In 2024, the restaurant was awarded a second star, making Vítor Matos the Portuguese chef with the most Michelin stars at that time. The 2026 Michelin guide confirms the two-star rating, describing the cooking as “excellent.” This recognition is woven into the restaurant’s daily work, where the focus remains on delivering a deeply personal cuisine rooted in Portuguese products and Matos’s international experience.
