The story
In the centre of Porto, on Rua de Santa Catarina, Apego is a restaurant built on the idea of connection — to the land, the seasons, and the people around the table. The name itself means the feeling that binds a person to the things and people they love. It is a philosophy that runs through every dish, every gesture, and every moment of the experience.
Led by Chef Aurora Goy, the kitchen is an all-female team drawing on influences from Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, and France. Goy’s own path is a story of time and place: born in France to a French father and a Portuguese mother, she trained in France at restaurants such as Guy Savoy and L’Auberge du 15, then worked in Brazil and at Lisbon’s Belcanto and Tavares Rico before choosing Porto as her home. Eight years ago, she opened Apego, a space that reflects her approach to cooking — guided by seasonality, respect for ingredients, and a slower, more mindful pace.
The menu changes with the seasons. On weekends, the restaurant works exclusively with tasting menus, offering two journeys: “Apego,” a five-moment celebration of the essential, and “Desapego,” a seven-moment voyage of discovery with more room for surprise and instinct. From Tuesday to Thursday, guests can choose from à la carte dishes or the “Menu of Time,” a six-moment guided path through the season’s rhythm. Dishes might include Portuguese artichokes with anchovy and fermented mustard, monkfish with turnip and kaffir lime, or a dessert of coscorões with heather honey and loquat. The team’s French technique and multicultural influences are present in every course, but the food is never fussy — it is precise, personal, and deeply felt.
In the dining room, the team of “smiling siblings” welcomes with warmth, humour, and genuine care. The atmosphere is intimate and family-like, an invitation to slow down, share, and be present. This approach has earned Apego a place in the Michelin Guide, recommended for its thoughtful, heartfelt cuisine. It is a restaurant where time spent at the table is cherished — just as it should be.
