The story

Miyakodori: Refined Japanese Omakase and Izakaya Dining in Stockholm

Roots in Kawasaki and the Swedish capital

Miyakodori delivers refined Japanese omakase and izakaya dining to Stockholm. Max founded the Vasastan spot after years working with the original family behind a third generation yakitori house in Kawasaki. The founders chose to carry that lineage forward rather than replicate it, focusing instead on the core izakaya principle of treating guests like friends. This philosophy shapes every plate they serve at their current location.

Tasting menus and shareable plates

Guests often order the omakase set, which moves through delicate pieces like Rossini caviar served with sturgeon roe and milk bread alongside Japanese wagyu tartar monaka. The kitchen also prepares grilled skewers and seasonal items such as king oyster mushrooms wrapped in shiso leaves before a light tempura fry. Each dish arrives with clear technique and straightforward seasoning that lets quality ingredients speak. The omakase format runs around one thousand five hundred kronor per person before drinks are added.

A lively dining room

The space divides into distinct zones including a kitchen counter, sofa seating, and bar stools along the wall. It fills quickly during peak hours, creating a busy energy that matches the steady rhythm of the pass. The White Guide recently awarded the venue its very fine level rating for 2026. Reviewers highlighted how the omakase approach balances surprising flavor combinations with familiar comfort across rotating selections.

White Guide — Very fine level

Miyakodori has been widely praised ever since it opened its doors in late 2022. A Japanese gastropub in true izakaya style was clearly something missing from Stockholm’s dining scene, and when the industry itself selected its favorite restaurants through the Stora Gastronomipriset 2025, Miyakodori earned an honorable fifth place. All of this is entirely understandable. The food served is consistently expertly prepared, with a flavor profile that manages the feat of feeling both surprising and comforting at the same time. You can piece together your own meal from the menu, but it’s even wiser to relax and let the restaurant decide by ordering omakase. Dishes arrive ranging from the most delicate salmon sashimi to caviar with smetana and fluffy milk bread, alongside several types of grilled skewers that leave everyone at the table silent, nodding and smiling at one another. Miyakodori offers a feast for the taste buds that perhaps deserved a slightly more relaxed setting. Things move quickly here, the atmosphere is lively, the space is cramped, and it feels a bit hectic—almost leaving you wondering what just happened once you’re standing back on the sidewalk. That said, we can only strongly recommend anyone who has the chance to book a table here, because food this good should not be missed.
