The story
Il-Gabbiano has served Italian cuisine in Jeddah since 1998, founded by Saud Abdulaziz Kaki. Gault & Millau awarded the venue 11 points for its chic setting and extensive menu, which spans antipasti, pizzas, pastas, and risottos alongside choices like chicken and fries. The kitchen employs international chefs who prepare dishes using quality ingredients drawn from local and global sources. This broad approach reflects the group's commitment to diverse culinary experiences within a single dining room.
The kitchen showcases specialties like Insalata d'Aragosta, Insalata ai Frutti di Mare, and Cocktail di Gamberi. Regular visitors frequently order the fried calamari and the large burrata, while mains such as the mushroom chicken risotto and veal Milanese draw consistent praise. The dining room also features an in-house Saudi champagne selection that complements the seafood and meat courses. Sweet endings typically arrive as a textbook tiramisu or a dense chocolate fondant.
Situated on the Corniche, the restaurant frames panoramic sea views through large windows and a dedicated upstairs dining room. Rustic wood details and soft lighting frame the artistic wall elements, creating a relaxed environment for both families and couples. Open seating areas accommodate larger groups, while quieter corners offer privacy for romantic dinners. The manager stays visible during service to address requests promptly, maintaining a steady flow of hospitality.
