The story

Benoit Riyadh: Alain Ducasse’s French Bistro in Saudi Arabia

A Century of Bistro Heritage

Benoit Riyadh opened on 23 April 2025 in the King Abdullah Financial District, becoming the latest outpost of a legendary Parisian bistro. Founded in 1912 by butcher Benoit Matray, the original Benoit stood for three generations as one of the last authentic Parisian bistros, known for its convivial atmosphere and classic French cooking. In 2005, the restaurant was acquired by Maison Ducasse, the group led by chef Alain Ducasse, and has since expanded to New York, Tokyo, and Kyoto. Now, Riyadh joins that lineage.

Cuisine with a Contemporary Twist

The menu at Benoit Riyadh, developed by Alain Ducasse in collaboration with the Executive Chef, showcases the full bistro repertoire with a contemporary twist. The cooking is warm-hearted and generous, offering traditional appetizers, classic dishes, and irresistible Parisian pastries. It is French cuisine at its most approachable—rooted in the bistros of Paris but with unexpected takes on familiar flavors.

Recognition and Atmosphere

Benoit Riyadh has already earned a place in the Michelin guide, receiving a Recommended distinction in 2026. The restaurant mirrors the convivial spirit of the original, with indoor and outdoor seating. A café is open daily from noon to midnight, while formal dining service runs for lunch and dinner. Private dining options are also available. Whether you seek a taste of Parisian tradition or a contemporary French meal, Benoit Riyadh delivers an experience that is both timeless and of the moment.

Like a few other big names in the restaurant world, Alain Ducasse has set up shop in Riyadh, to create a local version of the famous Parisian bistro. And what better district than the KAFD (King Abdullah Financial District) to host this concentrated vision of French dining as it is often dreamed of abroad? Almost nothing is missing: deep red banquettes, thick white tablecloths, vintage chandeliers and waiters obviously dressed as in Paris, or almost. We let our eyes wander over the black-and-white photos of the Arc de Triomphe or the Eiffel Tower hanging on the walls and, while listening to a playlist from the 70s that wouldn't make sense in Paris (Delpech, Dassin, Guichard...), we indulge with a certain delight in the great classics, from the Vichyssoise soup and the roast chicken with its pretty purée to the chocolate soufflé, unfortunately far too sweet. The menu includes a nice nod to the kingdom with the Rossini camel, service is attentive and prices largely mirror those in Paris.
