SOKAČE in Novi Sad channels five generations of the Nikolić family’s recipes into a working kitchen dedicated to traditional Serbian cuisine. Their chefs approach ingredient assembly as a deliberate craft, combining vegetables, cured meats, and fresh catches with methods passed down since the nineteen twenties. This commitment to authentic Serbian cooking earned a Gault&Millau score of eleven for 2026, which highlighted the restaurant’s steady service and genuine table atmosphere. Guests move through a warmly lit space decorated with vintage photographs and antique household objects that document local life across decades.

Signature Plates and Regional Flavors

The menu rotates through roughly two hundred fifty seasonal items, anchored by dishes drawn from southern and eastern Serbia. A glass display presents freshly cut meats ready for the grill, while the sač oven handles slow-roasted lamb kapama and smoked pork shank. Vine leaf rolls arrive with thick sour milk, and roasted peppers rest atop creamy kajmak alongside baked beans and ajmokac. Sweet finishes feature thin-crust baklava, fruit-filled dumplings, and a vanilla slice that mirrors the region’s pastry heritage.

The Room and Evening Ambience

Two separate halls accommodate smaller gatherings and larger celebrations, with staff handling full setup and breakdown for both dining rooms and off-site catering orders. When evening approaches, musicians tune their string instruments for live tamburica performances that accompany dinner service. Patrons depart with a small plate of house-made vanilica cookies and a pour of raspberry liqueur, marking the end of the meal without fanfare.
