The story
At 6 Upper Dickson Road in Little India, Lagnaa invites you to take off your shoes, sit on the floor, and immerse yourself in the six flavours of Indian food – what they call "Arusuvai." This one-of-a-kind bistro is a welcome refuge from the city’s bustle, serving both South and North Indian dishes at spice levels ranging from 1 (pacifier-friendly) to 6 (I dare YOU). The playful menu, with offerings like Curry Shots to test your chilli tolerance and Butter Chicken sashaying in tomato-cashew sauce, reflects a kitchen that knows its craft and doesn't take itself too seriously. Lagnaa’s Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin Guide recognises this good quality, good value cooking – a testament to the restaurant’s ability to deliver bold, memorable Indian cuisine without pretence.
Founder and mastermind Masterchef Kaesavan is a curry and chilli advocate who champions Indian cuisine and dares to be different. He is supported by Curry Mummy Kumaarrie, the energiser who ensures everything runs smoothly, and Friendly Santhi, a manager who makes every guest feel like a teacher’s pet. Together, they create an atmosphere that is both warm and unpretentious – a place where the food speaks for itself.
The a la carte menu spans tandoor temptations, chicken, seafood, mutton, and vegetables, all built around the concept of six fundamental flavours. Standouts include the Chef’s Specialty Threadfin Fish Curry, the hand-pulled Picha Koli chicken, and the playful Chilli Poppers. Vegetarians are well catered for with dishes like Paneer Butter Masala and Palak Paneer. Whether you’re a spice novice or a seasoned daredevil, Lagnaa’s Indian cuisine offers an experience that is both grounded and exhilarating.
