The story
On Johor Road in 1969, Mr. Yeo Eng Song served bowl after bowl of piping hot Bak Kut Teh from a humble pushcart. When the meat ran low, he would walk to a friend’s chiller to restock. That dedication to a single, perfect bowl of Teochew-style pork rib soup became the foundation of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh.
Today, the restaurant at 11 New Bridge Road is the flagship of a brand that has grown across Singapore and beyond. Yet the original spirit remains. The pushcart icon on the wall is a reminder of what Song Fa is about: tender, fall-off-the-bone pork ribs in a hot, flavourful, spicy-peppery broth, served with the warmth of a 1960s roadside dining ambience.
Song Fa’s Singaporean cuisine is built on five core values: teamwork, diligence, integrity, excellence, and heritage. The kitchen ensures authentic flavours and quality sourcing, while the service team brings deep knowledge of all things Bak Kut Teh. The menu extends beyond the signature soup to include braised dishes, seasonal specials like Seafood Dough Fritters and Sesame Oil Chicken, and a curated tea selection.
The restaurant has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand for eight consecutive years—a recognition the team calls “deeply humbling.” It is also a Made With Passion brand, endorsed by the Singapore Brand Office and Singapore Tourism Board, and listed as a top choice on platforms like TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet.
Song Fa regularly collaborates with heritage partners like tea merchant Pek Sin Choon for tasting journeys that explore the history of Bak Kut Teh. In 2025, the restaurant hosted a workshop pairing its peppery broth with traditional teas, alongside modern sides like Braised Pork Belly and Fragrant Garlic Fried Chicken.
From one pushcart to a beloved institution, Song Fa Bak Kut Teh continues to preserve and share an original Bak Kut Teh experience for every generation.
