The story
NICO CAFFÉ PREŠOV launched in 2013 as a compact Pan-Asian Slovak kitchen near the University of Prešov. The original single-room layout held just ten tables while a loyal student following gradually formed. A comprehensive renovation in 2023 transformed the footprint into a brighter space defined by tall glass windows and wooden seating. This modern bistro now operates with distinct zones for morning coffee service and evening dining.
The culinary program balances Vietnamese inspired broths with familiar regional favorites. A rich sour cream stew arrives with a pan-fried rissole and a soft egg, topped with crisp onions and fresh dill for texture. Lighter pho bo offerings feature a gently sweetened broth that adapts the classic to local tastes. Fresh sourdough loaves arrive daily from partner bakery Kromka while the coffee counter serves the custom Ouki Douki blend.
Exposed brick walls and polished concrete floors sit beneath high ceilings to keep the room feeling open. Patrons typically reserve tables for extended conversations rather than treating the venue as a quick lunch stop. This steady gathering place secured an 11.5 rating from Gault & Millau for the 2026 edition. The kitchen continues to refine its casual bistro approach by prioritizing slow sipped drinks and shared plates over rushed service.
