The story
LALÚ Bistro occupies an attractive spot right on Trg celjskih knezov, the main square of Celje. It is a small, modern space where the atmosphere is intentionally laid-back – no stiff formality, just a warm welcome and a menu that changes with the seasons. The restaurant’s own description calls it a “fusion of all styles, with creative design, but relaxed and without limits on a specific type of food.” That freedom is the guiding principle here.
Owner and creative director Marko Pavčnik leads the kitchen alongside chef Damjan Čulk, with manager Neja Hlebec ensuring everything runs smoothly. Together they build a menu that draws freely from Asian, French, Slovenian, and Italian traditions depending on what is fresh and inspiring. The result is a style that feels both international and distinctly personal.
The dishes are deeply seasonal and change often, so a visit brings pleasant surprises. The regular menu includes items like beef tartare with truffle mayonnaise, tuna tataki with pistachio and ponzu, and signature warm dishes such as cauliflower with truffle cream and hazelnuts, or duck breast with orange sauce and buckwheat soba noodles. A thoughtful selection of local and international wines, plus house-brewed LALU beers, completes the experience.
LALÚ’s commitment to good value, high-quality cooking earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026. This award highlights restaurants that offer excellent food at reasonable prices, and LALÚ embodies that spirit – from its daily business lunch menus (served weekdays, 12:00–15:00) to its more elaborate à la carte offerings. Whether you stop by for a quick, satisfying lunch or settle in for a leisurely dinner, the food is prepared with the same care and creativity.
