The story

Gostišče Kapušin in Črnomelj: Contemporary Bela Krajina Cuisine

The kitchen and its founders

Gostišče Kapušin has served diners in Črnomelj since 1989, now guided by the third generation of the founding family. Chef Ana anchors every plate in the culinary heritage of Bela Krajina cuisine while applying contemporary techniques to age-old recipes. Her husband Roman manages the cellar, designing wine pairings that highlight regional vineyards alongside each course. This careful balance recently earned the property a Gault&Millau rating of 13.5.

Signature plates and seasonal produce

The menu builds around locally sourced proteins and garden vegetables, translating rural recipes into refined courses that define regional Slovenian cooking. Smoked beef tongue rests on horseradish curd cheese topped with homegrown herbs, while ravioli filled with slow-cooked oxtail meat arrive bathed in demi-glace. Grilled lamb stands out as a centerpiece, finished simply to let the marbling speak, followed by desserts like buckwheat potica and a layered gibanica featuring Štruclj curd cheese.

The dining space and garden

Guests move through an aesthetically calm interior that opens onto a covered terrace sheltered by mature trees. The outdoor garden extends the seating area during warmer months, providing a relaxed setting for both casual lunches and formal gatherings. The property also hosts weddings within a dedicated hall that maintains the same understated elegance found throughout the building.
