The story
Altrokè sits on Stari trg 19, in the medieval heart of Ljubljana – a street known for its history and contemporary city life. The name, from the Istrian dialect, means “certainly” – a word of gratitude and affirmation. And the restaurant lives up to that promise with a menu inspired by the Mediterranean and the Istrian peninsula.
Altrokè has earned consistent recognition from Michelin, holding a Michelin Plate from 2022 through 2024, and now carrying a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. It also received Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice award in 2021. These honours reflect the kitchen’s commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients and the bold, sun‑drenched flavours of the region.
The à la carte menu is built around fresh seasonal produce and signature Altrokè dishes. Look for Boškarin beef – a breed native to Istria – and Kraški pršut, the famed dry‑cured ham from the Karst plateau. For a lighter option, salad plates are available, and a 3‑course lunch menu is offered at €16 – a keenly priced introduction to the restaurant’s cooking.
Whether you visit for a full dinner or a midday lunch, the cooking is direct and confident, letting the ingredients speak. Takeaway and catering are also available, bringing the flavours of Istria beyond the dining room.
