The story
Perched within the historic walls of Ljubljana Castle, Gostilna na Gradu offers a daily evolving menu that celebrates the depth of Slovenian cuisine. Under the guidance of chef Luka Jezeršek and the daily leadership of chef Ana Šušteršič, the kitchen team—headed by chef Sebastjan Elbl and his crew—crafts dishes that draw from the country’s 24 gastronomic regions.
The restaurant’s philosophy is rooted in local, seasonal, and regional ingredients. Typical Slovenian dishes are reimagined in a modern, sophisticated style while preserving the country’s culinary heritage. Guests can expect freshly prepared plates that highlight quality produce, with a tasting menu available from 6 pm.
Gostilna na Gradu has earned consistent acclaim. Between 2020 and 2024, it held a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and in 2025 it was awarded the Michelin Selected distinction, which recognizes restaurants that prepare carefully crafted dishes using fresh ingredients and show strong potential for culinary development. The venue also appears on the 50 Best Discovery list and holds two forks in the Falstaff guide.
The setting is as notable as the food: a pleasant ambience behind castle walls, with outdoor seating available. The restaurant is accessible for individuals with disabilities, and the castle can be reached by funicular, train, walking paths, or bicycle.
Restaurant manager Jure Starič oversees daily operations, while creative chef Ana Šušteršič drives the seasonal specialities. Together with chef Sebastjan Elbl and his team, they deliver a menu that evolves with the seasons, ensuring each visit offers something new. Upon advance notice, the kitchen can accommodate special dietary requirements, though gluten-free meals cannot be guaranteed due to cross-contamination risks in the workspace.
