The story
At Dveri Pax, the dining experience unfolds within a beautifully restored manor house that has stood for more than 450 years, set on the estate’s own vineyards in Jarenina, near Maribor. The restaurant’s recognition by the Michelin Guide for Slovenia speaks to the quality of its atmosphere and cooking, while a three-point rating from Gault & Millau underscores the kitchen team’s dedication and inventive approach.
The kitchen focuses on contemporary, seasonal cuisine, expressed through a single, evolving tasting menu. Guests choose from a five, six, or seven-course format, with each course built around precise, seasonal ingredients. A recent menu opened with an amuse-bouche, then moved through dishes such as carrot with black radish and Jerusalem artichoke, sturgeon with cauliflower and pear, and roasted pumpkin with orange and fresh cheese. Heartier courses like pork shank with horseradish and apple, veal with radicchio and truffle, and pork with quince and parsnip follow, finishing with a sweet potato, sour cream, and chili course.
Given that Dveri Pax is first and foremost a renowned wine cellar, each tasting menu can be paired with a selection of five, six, or seven estate wines. The pairing is a natural extension of the meal, allowing guests to explore the wines produced just steps from the dining room. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating and parking, making it an easy destination for a leisurely afternoon or evening.
