The story
On the rolling borderlands between Austria's Styrian wine roads and Slovenia's Pohorje slopes, Hiša Denk has stood since 1972. Today, the restaurant's clean, modern exterior opens into two dining rooms and a sheltered terrace overlooking a garden and pond—spaces designed for calm and comfort. This is the setting for chef Gregor Vračko's cooking, which has earned the restaurant a Michelin star for high-quality modern cuisine.
The kitchen builds on family recipes and the natural bounty of Styria. Every plate is precise, every detail intentional, presented with a clarity that lets the ingredients speak. The ethos is simple: take local tradition and give it a 21st-century twist. Guests choose from three-, five-, or seven-course menus at lunch, and five or seven courses at dinner. The wine list, curated by sommelier Kari Wiggen, features a fine selection of local, national, and international white, red, and orange wines.
Chef Gregor Vračko leads the kitchen with sous chef Matevž Božič, while head waiter Boštjan Vogrinčič oversees service. Together, they create an experience that feels both personal and professional—a reflection of the house's long history and its ambition to offer something special.
Hiša Denk also offers seven modern guest rooms and a catering service, allowing visitors to extend their stay or bring the family tradition to their own events. Whether stopping for a meal or settling in for the night, the restaurant remains rooted in its place: Styrian hills, family heritage, and cooking that deserves its star.
