The story
Hiša Ančka in Slovenj Gradec operates as a culinary house where Slovenian-Italian cuisine meets everyday comfort. Recognized with a fourteen point score from Gault&Millau, the kitchen balances regional ingredients with homemade pasta, creating meals that reflect a consistent approach to modern Slovenian cooking.
The current restaurant occupies a building over two centuries old, previously known as Inn Ančka during the 1960s. After a complete refresh in December 2017, the space reopened with a clear focus on comfort food elevated by precise technique. An eleven-person team now manages the daily service, guided by sustainability standards recognized through the Green Key certification since 2023. The approach favors substance over spectacle, letting seasonal produce and traditional methods carry the menu.
Freshly grated steak tartare arrives alongside sourdough topped with black kale butter and fleur de sel. Handmade pljukanci pasta coats itself in a deep porcini sauce finished with shaved black truffle, while roasted chicken meets basil pesto on fluffy gnocchi. Milk-fed veal rests on demi-glace beside pea purée and chanterelle mushrooms, finishing the meal with flavors that reflect local forests.
Wooden furnishings and warm lighting define the interior, which shares the historic structure with twelve boutique hotel rooms. Guests can extend their evening onto a two-hundred-fifty-square-meter terrace where live music plays throughout the summer months. Families gather near the artificial turf playground while couples book weekend packages that combine dining with wellness access. The layout encourages lingering conversations rather than rushed turnover, keeping the pace steady from early evening until closing.
