The story
In the heart of Seoul’s Gangnam district, alla prima presents a dining experience defined by precision and quiet elegance. The restaurant’s name, borrowed from the Italian painting technique meaning “at first attempt,” hints at the chef’s philosophy of direct, unmediated expression through food.
The space is intentionally intimate, with a total of 28 seats spread across three configurations: eight counter seats that offer a front-row view of the kitchen’s work, 14 table seats for a more traditional setting, and one private room that accommodates six to eight guests. The atmosphere is serene and focused, with clear guidelines—no video shoots, silent mode, no strong perfumes—designed to keep the attention on the meal.
alla prima offers a chef’s tasting course for both lunch and dinner, with prices that vary. Lunch service runs from 12:00 to 15:00 (last reservation at 12:30, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours), while dinner is served from 18:00 to 22:00 (last reservation at 19:00, lasting 2.5 to 3 hours). The menu changes with the seasons, reflecting the chef’s commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients.
The restaurant’s recognition with a Michelin two-star award speaks to the excellence of its cooking—a testament to the kitchen’s ability to create dishes that are both refined and deeply satisfying. Whether seated at the counter watching the team at work or at a table with a curated wine list, guests experience a meal that feels both deliberate and effortless.
Closed every Tuesday and on holidays, alla Prima requires reservations, which can be made through the restaurant’s online link.
