The story
In the small village of Val de San Lorenzo, just outside Astorga, La Lechería occupies a handsome stone house that has been restored with care, preserving the essence of Maragatería architecture while adding every modern comfort. The result is a space that feels both rooted and welcoming—a place to eat and rest in a magical setting, as the owners describe it.
Chef Rubén Dominguez leads the kitchen, crafting a cuisine that is a constant, imaginative reinvention of traditional local cooking. The food is described as luminous, elegant, and balanced, built on singular combinations of flavors and textures drawn from the Maragatería region. This commitment to quality and value earned La Lechería a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand award, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking that the restaurant proudly holds.
Beyond the restaurant, La Lechería offers nine guest rooms—one suite, three special rooms, and five doubles—each named after vanished villages of the region. A rural breakfast is included, featuring homemade bread, cakes, jams, and flavored butters. The house also includes a library and several sitting areas, all decorated with traditional textiles and furniture, inviting guests to linger.
Whether dining on the evolving menu or exploring the surrounding Maragatería landscape, La Lechería provides an experience that connects gastronomy, culture, and nature. It is a place where the influence of Monte Teleno and the history of the last muleteers still linger, adding depth to every meal and every stay.
