The story

La Boscana, Bellvís: Two Michelin Stars Rooted in the Catalan Landscape

A Restaurant in the Orchard

On a 60,000-square-metre estate outside Bellvís, La Boscana offers something rare: a dining room that seats only eight tables, where the boundary between indoors and the surrounding countryside dissolves. The restaurant describes itself as a “unique space, unique cuisine, unique team” – and the setting makes that clear from the moment you arrive.

The Chef and His Philosophy

Chef Joel Castanyé leads the kitchen with a conviction that the landscape of Lleida should be the starting point for every dish. “We cook the landscape, we make situated cuisine,” he says. That means a Catalan cuisine built on the produce of the immediate surroundings – fruit from the region’s orchards, vegetables from local fields, and ingredients that change with the seasons. The result is a menu that feels less like a list of dishes and more like a journey through the Pla d’Urgell.

The Menus

La Boscana offers two tasting menus. The smaller “Petit Menú” (available Wednesday to Friday) is a concise tour of the restaurant’s classics, while the full “Primavera en Flor” (Spring in Bloom) is a longer, more elaborate experience that evolves with the harvest. Both menus are built around the fruit of Lleida – a focus that has earned the restaurant recognition beyond its Michelin stars. The fruit appears in unexpected forms: fig flower with royal crab and langoustine, apple filled with savoury ingredients, and a sequence of cherry desserts that range from a sake-infused version to a Black Forest interpretation.

Awards and Recognition

La Boscana holds two Michelin stars, a distinction that reflects the excellence of its cooking. The restaurant has also received the Michelin Green Star for its sustainable practices, and it has been honoured with the National Gastronomy Award for Innovation, the Alimentem el Món Award for its “Fruita i Gastronomia” project, and the Pearfect Award from Afrucat. These accolades are not separate from the dining experience – they are the result of the same commitment to the land and its products that defines every plate.

The Experience

Dinner at La Boscana is unhurried and intimate. The tasting menus are designed to be shared by the whole table, encouraging a communal rhythm. The wine list is carefully curated, and the service is warm without being intrusive. This is Catalan cuisine at its most thoughtful – rooted in a specific place, shaped by a chef who knows his territory, and recognised by the world’s most demanding guide.
