The story
El Retorno sits in Consuegra, a town in Castilla-La Mancha known for its windmills and the route of Don Quixote. The restaurant’s name—"The Return"—evokes a homecoming to the culinary roots of this land, but the cooking looks forward. Chef Pedro Rodríguez leads a kitchen that respects the product above all, sourcing from a 100% km 0 garden and seasonal markets.
Rodríguez describes his cuisine as “vanguardista con toques de cocina tradicional pero en evolución y fusionada” – avant-garde with touches of traditional Spanish cuisine, evolving and fused with other gastronomic cultures. That local, seasonal base is elevated by technique and global inspiration. The dining room mirrors the balance: a traditional, cared-for space where old and new sit comfortably together.
El Retorno works exclusively with tasting menus that change with the seasons. Delicias de Meridión is served weekdays at lunch only – a precise, lighter journey through the day’s best ingredients, priced at 50€. Viaje de Sabores is the fuller experience, available every day in short (58€) and long (68€) versions. Both require advance reservation and are served to the whole table. The restaurant recommends them for guests aged 12 and up, ensuring a calm, focused meal. The menus are built around the philosophy of “máxima calidad del producto” – the highest quality product. Any changes due to market availability are communicated at the start of service.
In 2026, Michelin recognised El Retorno with a Recommendation, placing it among the notable tables of Spain. It is a fitting accolade for a restaurant that honours its heritage while daring to experiment – a small, personal operation in the plains of La Mancha that rewards those who seek it out.
