The story
El Puntido is a contemporary restaurant rooted in the land it calls home. Its story begins in 1975, when Guillermo Eguren planted the vineyard that gives the restaurant its name in the borderlands of Rioja Alavesa, near Laguardia. The first vintage of El Puntido wine followed in 2001, and two decades later, the restaurant opened as a natural extension of that legacy—a place where the past, present, and future of the estate converge.
The kitchen here is guided by a philosophy of honesty and precision. The team works with deep respect for the product, preparing each ingredient with care and exactness. The result is a style of cooking that is both refined and straightforward, letting the quality of the produce speak.
Guests choose between two tasting menus: “El Puntido” and “Calados del Puntido,” both of which change with the seasons. The “El Puntido” menu is priced at 95€ without wine pairing and 170€ with it; the “Calados del Puntido” is 75€ without pairing and 140€ with. The wine pairings draw directly from the Sierra Cantabria cellars, making the link between plate and glass immediate and intentional.
The restaurant’s location within the Viñedos de Páganos estate means that every meal is framed by the surrounding vineyards. The atmosphere is calm and focused, designed to let the food and wine take centre stage.
El Puntido has earned a place in the Michelin guide, a testament to its consistent, high-level cooking and its seamless integration of wine into the dining experience. For anyone seeking a contemporary meal in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, it offers a compelling reason to linger.
