The story
Carballeira sits in the middle of Lleida’s fertile horticultural belt, a spacious restaurant surrounded by natural landscape. The dining room is large and airy, complemented by two terraces — one for summer, another enclosed and climate-controlled year-round — where guests can eat surrounded by the fields.
The restaurant is a family affair, run by Ángel, Tere and Héctor Rodríguez. Two generations of cooks lead the kitchen: Ángel Rodríguez at the helm, with his son Héctor Rodríguez as chef, trained in prestigious establishments and now bringing imagination and professionalism to the stoves. They welcome guests with a simple, direct invitation: “Welcome to our home.”
The defining feature of Carballeira is the quality of its ingredients. Fish and shellfish arrive daily from the ports of Galicia and Tarragona. Meats, vegetables and fruits come from nearby producers — from the orchard to the table. The team works only with suppliers who guarantee traceability, freshness and strict standards on size, weight and origin.
The kitchen focuses on the best of the sea. Carballeira is considered among the seven best seafood restaurants in Spain, and the cooking is executed with passion and presented with care. This is seafood cuisine (mariscos, peix) in its purest form, letting the product speak.
Carballeira’s commitment to quality has earned it a place in the Michelin guide, where it is listed as Recommended. The recognition reflects a kitchen that values precision and respect for the raw material over flashy technique.
Private dining spaces of various sizes are available for business meals or celebrations, and the restaurant also offers group menus designed for families, friends or colleagues. Whether in the main dining room, a private space, or on the terrace, the experience remains the same: carefully sourced seafood, cooked with the confidence that comes from two generations of family knowledge.
