The story

Ikaro, Logroño: Michelin-Starred Fusion of Ecuador, Basque Country & Rioja

A meeting of worlds on the plate

Ikaro is not a restaurant that simply borrows flavours. It is built on the encounter of three distinct culinary cultures: Ecuador, the Basque Country and La Rioja. The driving force behind this confluence is the couple Iñaki and Carolina, whose shared passion for cooking and for making guests happy through each dish is the foundation of everything they do. “Así somos. Así es Ikaro,” they say. This is the spirit that earned the restaurant a Michelin star, a recognition of high-quality cooking that feels both personal and precise.

The cuisine at Ikaro is defined by a deep respect for technique and for the product. Seasonal, fresh ingredients dictate the menu, which changes to follow the market’s rhythm. The result is a tasting menu that is daring yet true to its roots. A recent menu, the Menú Ikaro, offers a journey that begins with a welcome cocktail and a trio of chorizos—Ambateño, Riojano and Vasco—each with its own bread, a clever nod to the restaurant’s tripartite identity. Aperitivos follow, including squid in its ink and a langostino ceviche with yucca and smoked fish, before a white asparagus dish with Iberian ham gelée and an ice cream made with Ecuadorian vanilla. The fusion continues with a red mullet ceviche, a carabinero tartare with viche, and a Tolosa bean stew served with green plantain empanada. Grilled sea bass and roasted quail lead to desserts like a strawberry “come y bebe” with kefir and basil, and a salted dulce de leche bavarois with ishpingo and macambo.

An atmosphere of relaxed elegance

The dining room at Ikaro is deliberately simple, warm and welcoming. Design furniture and contemporary lighting create a setting that is comfortable and relaxed, allowing the food to remain the focus. The wine list is a tribute to the diversity of La Rioja—the land that gives its name to wine—but it also ventures beyond, offering traditional and new-wave Riojas alongside bottles from other territories. It is a selection built on variety, not just for taste but for the full sensory experience.

A kitchen born of happiness

At its core, Ikaro is a restaurant born from the happiness of eating and the joy of cooking. Iñaki and Carolina share a piece of their worlds through every plate, and the result is a dining experience that is both personal and expansive. The Michelin star is a testament to the quality of their cooking, but the real story is in the meeting of cultures on a single plate in Logroño.
