The story
In the heart of Lugo, on Rúa Nova, Prebe by Bret is a restaurant built on a simple, powerful idea: start with the finest local ingredients and apply the most innovative techniques to let their flavours and textures shine. The result is a place the team describes as "fiesta, lujuria y satisfacción" — celebration, lust, and satisfaction.
Behind the stove is Bret Fernández, a chef whose career reads like a map of Spanish gastronomy. Born in Becerreá in 1987, he began his professional kitchen work in the very space that now houses Prebe by Bret. His great leap came in 2013 when he joined El Celler de Can Roca, named best restaurant in the world multiple times. He later returned to Galicia to cook "above the sea" at O Loxe Mareiro, earning a Sol Repsol and a Michelin recommendation, then took the reins at Pazo Los Escudo in Vigo. Now, he is back in Lugo to put the city on the national gastronomic map.
Prebe by Bret offers four distinct environments. The Petiscos & Wine Bar is the most informal, where tradition meets modernity and wine and tapas take centre stage. In summer, this extends to a terrace. The main dining room is presided over by a visible pantry of aged meats and fish — the setting for the kitchen's most daring proposals. And the wine cellar is the most intimate space, where the bottle takes the lead alongside a selection of petiscos.
The restaurant's approach to wine is equally considered: Galician wines are the protagonists, but the list also reaches across Spain and beyond. This commitment to quality and proximity, paired with technical precision, has earned Prebe by Bret a Michelin Recommended distinction. It is a restaurant that honours its roots while looking firmly forward.
