The story
Ferretería Restaurante occupies a building with a story: it was once the oldest hardware store in Madrid. Today, that history is woven into the fabric of the restaurant, creating a setting that feels both grounded and distinctive. The name itself, "Ferretería," is a nod to the space's past life.
The restaurant is divided into two distinct zones, each offering a different mood. The Leña-Bar, at street level, sits in the original hardware store space. It's the more informal option, with seating at the counter, high tables, and a lively, approachable atmosphere. Downstairs, El Restaurante is a quieter, more formal affair. Composed of five rooms framed by exposed brick vaults, it offers a sense of intimacy and privacy. Both spaces share the same menu, so the choice is about the experience you want.
The cuisine is Contemporary, a reflection of the kitchen's approach to modern, ingredient-driven cooking. The menu is designed to be shared, with a focus on bold flavors and seasonal produce. While the restaurant does not offer a tasting menu, the a la carte options and group menus provide flexibility for different occasions. The team also produces its own extra virgin olive oil, a Picual variety from an early harvest, which is available for purchase.
The restaurant's thoughtful approach has earned it a Michelin Recommended award, a recognition of its consistent quality and the compelling experience it offers. Whether you're stopping by the Leña-Bar for a drink and a bite, or settling into the vaulted dining room for a longer meal, Ferretería Restaurante delivers a distinctly Madrid experience—one that honors its past while cooking for the present.
