The story
In the heart of La Malagueta, within the Hotel MS Maestranza, Promesa brings a personal story to the table. The restaurant takes its name from a cocktail – “Promesa” – created by Miguel Sánchez, CEO of MS Hoteles, who became Spanish champion and world runner-up in bartending in 1967. His daughter chose the name to honor those beginnings. Today, the space channels that spirit: a Mediterranean ambiance inspired by Picasso, with views toward Muelle Uno. Diners choose between the restaurant, the bar, or a terrace, all designed for a relaxed yet refined experience.
Chef Julio Zambrana leads the kitchen, trained alongside some of Málaga’s best chefs. His cooking is grounded in Málaga and Andalusian tradition, but with a contemporary touch. The menu is a living document, changing with the seasons to highlight local, quality produce. “We take the classic dishes and give them an innovative style,” the restaurant explains. The approach earned Promesa a spot in the Michelin Guide, which praises its “cocina de gran fineza” – cuisine of great finesse. The Michelin Recommended distinction, awarded in 2025, reflects a commitment to technique, respect for the product, and a clear sense of place.
Promesa is as much about the drinks as the food. The cocktail list, a natural extension of the founding story, explores flavors and aromas, from timeless classics to house creations. The wine cellar has been curated with equal care, offering labels from prestigious vineyards and emerging bodegas alike, each chosen to complement the cooking. The restaurant’s philosophy is simple: “the art of caring.” Every day is a chance to make guests feel at home, a promise that has been recognized not only by Michelin but also by the Academia Gastronómica de Málaga, which awarded Promesa the 2023 José Luis Barrionuevo Prize for Best Restaurant in Málaga.
