Enoteca Maglia

Italian craft cooking, a dynamic daily menu, and Sweden's broadest Italian wine list – Enoteca Maglia at Mariaplan is worth the detour.

The story

Enoteca Maglia – Award-Winning Italian Restaurant in Göteborg's Majorna

Gastronomy for People in Jeans

Enoteca Maglia has been a fixture on Mariaplan in the Majorna district of Göteborg since 2012. Chef and owner Robert Maglia set out with a clear idea: Italian cooking driven by simplicity and passion, served in a relaxed space where food and wine take centre stage without any pretension. The phrase he uses himself – "gastronomy for people in jeans" – says it well.

The team behind the stoves has worked at one-, two- and three-starred restaurants around the world, and that experience shows. But rather than importing fine-dining formality, Maglia has channelled that knowledge into cooking that feels genuine and grounded. The result is a neighbourhood restaurant that draws regulars from the block and guests from across the city in equal measure.

A Menu That Never Stands Still

The kitchen works with a fully dynamic à la carte, reset daily according to what is freshest and best. Since opening, the menu has featured more than 5,300 different dishes – a figure that speaks to the restless creativity in the kitchen. In the evening, guests can choose anything from a single pasta dish to sharing plates or a three- or five-course menu. The White Guide, which awarded Enoteca Maglia its Fine level recognition, singled out a risotto with bottarga as "classical perfection on a plate" and praised a whole-grilled sea bass paired with an oregano-rich chimichurri as the kind of dish that makes you smile without quite knowing why.

Italy in a Glass

The Italian cooking is matched by what may be Sweden's broadest selection of Italian wines. The list is carefully curated rather than encyclopaedic for its own sake, and wine events – including Winemakers Dinners – are a regular part of life at the restaurant. For Robert Maglia, the pairing of food and wine is not an afterthought; it is built into the concept from the ground up.

The Space and Bar Rocco

The restaurant itself offers a dining room, a wine room, a lounge, a bar, and a generous outdoor terrace. The atmosphere is unhurried and the service warm. Maglia also runs Bar Rocco in the heart of Majorna, where a Saturday Italian-inspired brunch – Brunch con Bollicine, with prosecco free flow – gives the weekend a distinctly convivial feel.

Given how consistently strong the Italian cooking has become here, and how much is always happening, booking ahead is simply the smart move.

White Guide — Fine level

The neighborhood restaurant concept has experienced something of a renaissance in recent years. Above all, the concept has expanded from primarily encompassing simpler eateries to much more ambitious establishments. Enoteca Maglia at Mariaplan undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. It’s a neighborhood spot that certainly thrives on its local community and regulars, yet guests from across the city also make their way there. And the restaurant is truly worth a detour. Each year, the Italian culinary craft grows even more refined, and neither imagination nor inspiration shows any signs of fading (according to them, the menu has featured over 5,300 different dishes since 2012). A risotto with bottarga is classic perfection on a plate, and when the whole grilled sea bass marries an oregano-rich chimichurri, we find it hard not to just grin foolishly. Add an extremely pleasant venue with a large outdoor terrace and relaxed service, and it’s easy to understand why it can be wise to book a table even at a neighborhood spot to secure your place. The extensive wine list featuring carefully selected Italian wines feels in this context mostly like a wonderful bonus.
