Grano

Grano on Vasagatan serves beautifully crafted small plates followed by exceptional sourdough pizza – a White Guide-recommended Gothenburg original.

The story

Grano Göteborg – Award-Winning Pizza & Small Plates on Vasagatan

A meal at Grano on Vasagatan in Gothenburg plays out in two distinct acts, and that contrast is precisely the point. The small basement room fills up quickly – the crowd tends to be young, the décor unfussy – yet what arrives at the table carries a precision that White Guide reviewers have singled out for recognition.

Two Dinners in One Sitting

The evening begins with small sharing plates, and this is where the kitchen shows its range. Dishes like fried veal sweetbreads with coriander, or halibut tartare with yuzu and brown butter, are presented with the kind of enthusiasm and attention to detail you might expect from a far more formal address. The plates are beautiful, the flavours sharp and considered.

Then the mood shifts entirely.

Sourdough Pizza, Done Seriously

When the pizzas arrive, the finesse steps aside for something more direct. These are rustic sourdough pies – the kind that require no ceremony – topped with combinations ranging from tomato sauce and burrata to crème fraîche and lumpfish roe. No flourishes, just very good pizza. It is a deliberate gear change, and it works.

The Wine List

The wine list reaches beyond the obvious Italian regions, covering Piedmont and Tuscany while veering into less predictable territory – a spread that suits the menu's own dual personality rather well.

Grano's recognition by White Guide is a fair reflection of what the restaurant actually does: take pizza seriously enough to surround it with food that could stand on its own in a very different kind of room.

White Guide — Recomended

In the small cellar space on Vasagatan, you are served two entirely different dinners during a single sitting. The meal begins with a recommendation to order several small plates to share. These are delightfully flavorful, fantastically beautiful creations such as fried veal cheek with coriander, or halibut tartare with yuzu and brown butter. The small plates are rightly presented with the enthusiasm and meticulous attention to detail worthy of a starred restaurant. This is followed by the second phase of the meal. All traces of fine dining vanish when the restaurant’s main courses—the pizzas—arrive at the table. They are rustic sourdough pizzas loaded with fillings ranging from tomato sauce and burrata to crème fraîche and caviar. No frills, just damn good pizza. Alongside expected Italian regions like Piedmont and Tuscany, the wine list takes an eclectic turn that pairs perfectly with the menu. The clientele skews younger, and the curator-designed space is often packed.
