Right on Slottsskogsgatan, steps from Mariaplan in the lively Majorna neighbourhood, Luckans Fisk & Skaldjur is exactly what a great fish and seafood spot should be: unpretentious, well-stocked, and focused entirely on what the sea has to offer. The White Guide recognised it in 2026 for good reason – this is a place where quality speaks for itself.
The shelves tell you everything about the philosophy here. Tins of sardines, mackerel and the finest anchovies line the walls, while oars and herring barrels complete a setting that feels genuinely lived-in rather than styled. The owners' house-pickled herring is a point of pride, and the seasonal selection of fresh fish and shellfish reflects what is actually good right now, not what looks impressive on a menu.
The lunch offering is short – a brief fixed menu plus a daily special chalked on a blackboard. The limited choice is not a drawback when everything on it is this well executed. The fish burger, freshly fried and served in a soft, fluffy bun with coleslaw, is a regular highlight. So is the fried Baltic herring: crisp-panéed, served with mashed potato and lingonberry – the very dish that gave the owners' earlier food truck, Strömmingsluckan, its name and its following.
The crowd on any given lunch shift says a lot about the place: workers from the fish auction in their logoed jackets, younger colleagues grabbing a quick bite, an older couple picking up the evening's fish before heading home. Dogs are welcome too. It is the kind of seafood spot that belongs to its neighbourhood while being well worth a detour from anywhere else in Göteborg.

Right in the heart of Majorna, just next to Mariaplan, where the street life is lively and carries a small-town idyllic charm, sits this super cozy, well-stocked, and excellent little fish and seafood joint. Here you’ll find the best of the sea in season – plus homemade pickled herring. The shelves are stocked with cans of sardines, mackerel, and the finest sprats, while the interior decor features oars, herring barrels, and… well, you get the picture. There’s a short lunch menu, always featuring a special “Daily” on the chalkboard. The options are limited, but what does it matter when everything tastes so good? Think the fish burger, freshly fried in fluffy bread and served with coleslaw on the side. Or the pan-fried sprats with a crispy coating, mashed potatoes, and lingonberries (it’s this very dish that gave the owners’ previous food truck, Strömmingsluckan, its name). Among the patrons are some wearing shirts with the Fish Auction logo on the back, a group of younger customers squeezing in a quick lunch, and an older couple packing their shopping bags with dinner fish before heading home. Dogs are also welcome. Super cozy is the word.
