At Hönö Klåva harbour, where sailboat owners, locals, and day-trippers from Gothenburg converge, Tullhuset Restaurang has held its ground as the address with the most serious food ambitions. Preben and Sofie Pedersen have run this dedicated fish and seafood restaurant for over 25 years — and the concept has never wavered. Nearly every main course on the menu comes straight from the sea. The single vegetarian option is the exception that proves the rule.

That commitment has earned Tullhuset a place in the White Guide, which singles it out as the spot with the greatest culinary ambition along this stretch of the archipelago. The guide's own words put it plainly: you should like fish.

The Setting

Every table carries an ocean view — the restaurant is open about this, and makes no apology for seating by order of reservation rather than preference. The outdoor terrace at the water's edge is the draw on warmer days, where a gratinated crab and a glass of Riesling can stretch into an afternoon without anyone rushing you. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed but purposeful: this is a year-round restaurant, not a seasonal pop-up, and it carries itself accordingly.

Getting here from Gothenburg is part of the experience. The ferry from Saltholmen drops you at the island, and the harbour restaurants are within easy reach on foot.

What to Expect at the Table

The menu runs from a daily dock lunch — Brygglunch on weekdays, a weekend lunch format on Saturdays and Sundays — through to a full à la carte and a tasting menu. Seasonal events include a classic Midsummer menu built around herring, shellfish, and strawberry ice cream, as well as shellfish buffets and food-and-drink evenings with matched pairings.

Beyond the restaurant itself, Tullhuset offers packages that combine the table with the archipelago: a fishing trip aboard the boat Port Said into Kattegat waters, followed by a four-course lobster menu back on shore during lobster season. Hiking packages with overnight stays are also available year-round.

Rooted in the Local

Preben and Sofie describe the menu as something shaped together with guests and staff over the years — a living document rather than a fixed proposition. The partners and suppliers listed on the restaurant's own site include local seafood producers and regional food networks, keeping the fish and seafood sourcing close to home. That local engagement, they say, is what has made Tullhuset a genuine year-round fixture in the Gothenburg archipelago rather than a summer-only destination.
