On Storgatan in the small town of Mariefred, Han i hörnet occupies a corner that punches well above its modest footprint. The name translates loosely to "the one in the corner," but as the White Guide noted in its 2026 Fine level recognition, it could just as easily be called "the craft in the corner." That observation cuts to the heart of what Elin and Mattias Holmberg have built here since taking over in 2021: a place where the details matter, consistently and visibly.

Craft Over Scale

The restaurant is small by design — 14 seats in a cosy dining room with windows onto the passing street, and another 14 at the wine bar, where barstools and higher tables give full view into both the wine fridges and the kitchen at work. What the space lacks in grandeur it more than compensates for in attention. The White Guide singled out a telling example: steak tartare served on the back of the plate to achieve an extra sheen — a small gesture that signals a kitchen thinking carefully about every element of the experience.

Han i hörnet works equally well as a destination for a three-course dinner or a relaxed stop for a good glass of wine or a local beer at the bar. The bistro format is taken seriously here — not as a style choice but as a genuine commitment to accessible quality. Dogs are welcome (though not on the furniture), and the kitchen's approach to ingredients and presentation earns the kind of recognition that draws visitors from well beyond Mariefred.
