The story
On a quiet street in Borrby, just outside Simrishamn, an old blue house holds a restaurant that feels like a well-kept secret. The interior is full of nooks and crannies, blending retro and modern touches. A sunken garden offers outdoor seating in warmer months. Behind an enormous bank vault door, the wine list is carefully curated. The owners – a couple who divide their time between the dining room and the kitchen – mingle with guests, creating the atmosphere of a true neighborhood restaurant. White Guide has awarded Köpmangatan 6 Fine Level, highlighting its generous, well-balanced menu and the personal charm of the space.
The evening menu changes weekly, drawing from French, Mediterranean, and Swedish cuisines. Starters might include duck liver terrine on grilled bread with red onion chutney, or vendace roe with potato purée and browned butter. Mains range from steamed longtail with white wine and shellfish sauce to a classic beef tartare with capers and pommes frites. Vegetarians are well served with a chou farci stuffed with fresh cheese, roasted pepper cream, and grilled carrots. Desserts lean towards the classic: caramelised lemon tart with crème fraîche, chocolate ganache with lightly whipped cream, or a selection of cheeses with marmalade. For a digestif, “En Jonas” pairs chocolate truffle with Diplomatico rum and coffee.
Beyond the main dining room, there is a back room with generous opening hours and Sunday cinema. The Picklebar serves drinks and small bites, while the garden – reopening summer 2026 – will offer another setting for relaxed evenings. Wine and gin tastings are held on request, and the team also offers private chef services. Whether you come for a full evening or just a glass of wine, Köpmangatan 6 lives up to its reputation as a place where ideas and charm are never in short supply.
