The story

AG Stockholm – Award-Winning Steakhouse on Kronobergsgatan

Finding AG Is Half the Experience

There is an unmarked door on Kronobergsgatan 37 in Stockholm. If you hesitate in front of it, you are in the right place. Two industrial spiral staircases later, you arrive at one of Sweden's most singular dining rooms — bare cement floors, white-tiled walls, leather and chrome details, and glass cases displaying dry-aged cuts like still-life sculptures. The space was designed by Jonas Bohlin, and the result is something that could feel cold but somehow doesn't: the atmosphere lands squarely in the territory of carnivorous pleasure.

The Meat Is the Menu

AG is, without ambiguity, a steakhouse. White Guide describes the kitchen's philosophy as "inga krusiduller" — no fuss — and that restraint is precisely the point. With Scan as its beef supplier, the kitchen sources cuts from around the world, dry-ages them in-house, and fires them over a hard grill. The daily meat list changes, and a cut for two can reach 1,500 kronor. A meat fridge menu and a main-course card round things out, both dominated by beef. If beef is not what you are after, AG itself will tell you this may not be your restaurant.

That directness extends to the wine list, which leans toward full-bodied reds — structured, syrupy, or tannic — drawn mainly from the Old World. Wine Spectator awarded AG its Best of Award of Excellence, and the selection is presented directly within the menu itself, making the pairing decision feel less like homework and more like a natural extension of the meal. The staff know the list thoroughly.

Recognition That Reflects the Reality

White Guide rates AG at a "very fine level" in 2026, and the restaurant has been ranked #8 on the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list — a placement that confirms what regulars in Stockholm have quietly known for over a decade. The crowd skews male, the bar section is more mixed, and the energy throughout is unapologetically focused. This is Scandinavian steakhouse cooking at its most confident: no detours, no apologies, and no cash accepted.

White Guide — Very fine level

Despite having been a poorly kept secret for ten years, it remains difficult to find AG – is that anonymous door really the right one? Climb two harsh, industrial-scale spiral staircases, and once again, it becomes clear that he who seeks finds. To begin with, one of Sweden’s most audacious restaurant interiors. An industrial chill from a bare concrete floor and white-tiled walls is warmed by accents in leather and chrome. Alongside display cases packed with hanging cured meat arranged like still lifes, thoughts inevitably drift toward a slaughterhouse, yet the lighting, ingenious layout and furnishings, along with a rare sense of touch signed by Jonas Bohlin, somehow manage to temper the eerie impression into a cohesive space, perfectly suited for carnivorous hedonism. The kitchen certainly lives up to this vibe. For those who seek, they primarily find meat (if you’re craving anything other than heavily grilled beef, you can stop reading here). With Mamma Scan supplying beef from every corner of the globe, Jureskog & co. hang-cure and grill their meat according to the motto: no frills. Today’s meat list, where a steak for two easily runs 1,500 SEK, is complemented by a menu drawn from the meat cooler, as well as a hot dishes section dominated by – yes – beef. Despite a well-meaning marbling guide, making a choice isn’t easy. Following meat-induced decision paralysis comes a simpler selection from an exemplary short wine list, presented directly in the menu. The focus is on robust reds made from ripe or tannic grapes from the Old World. The attentive, somewhat seasoned waitstaff can count them on their five fingers. Last but not least, those who seek also find men. Throughout its history, the clientele has skewed heavily toward men of all ages, although the bar area tends to be more gender-balanced.
