The story

Café Facile – French Bistro Dining in Stockholm | White Guide Awarded

Café Facile

On Luntmakargatan in Stockholm, Café Facile brings the spirit of a French bistro to life. The menu, written on a chalkboard, lists classics: snails with parsley butter and garlic, steak frites with béarnaise, confit duck leg, and a hand-cut steak tartare with espelette pepper, Dijon mustard, capers, and cornichons. The kitchen also offers a vegetarian mushroom risotto and a grilled sea bass with haricots verts.

The restaurant’s story began with an email. In September 2011, Bengt Lind wrote to Bo Greitz, a restaurant consultant, about his dream of opening a place. After a year of searching, they found the space on Luntmakargatan. An inspiration trip to Paris in 2013 sealed the concept: a French bistro. Bo Greitz passed away shortly after the opening in November 2013, but his vision lives on.

The interior was designed by architect Åke Axelsson. Mahogany paneling lines the dining room walls, a bar counter is topped with Bohus granite, and the carpet pattern—a twill weave known as "gåsöga"—has roots in the Viking age. The chairs are Moderna II from Gärsnäs.

Café Facile has been recognized by the White Guide at the Fine level, which notes the rustic charm that transports guests from Luntmakargatan to Paris. The restaurant’s own coffee blend, "Kaffe Facile," is ground fresh seconds before brewing. Dinner guests receive complimentary brewed coffee and tea.

The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. QR codes on the tables link to the menu. Salt and pepper mills are black cylinders—the pepper contains white pepper. A note on etiquette: toothpicks are available in the restroom, following the late etiquette expert Magdalena Ribbing’s advice that toothpicking is a solitary activity.

For dessert, options range from crème caramel with whipped cream and salted caramel to a lavender crème brûlée, or a pain perdu with vanilla ice cream and rhubarb compote. A selection of French wines, ciders, and beers accompanies the meal.
