The story
In the heart of Stockholm's Old Town, Leijontornet has carved out a place for itself as a destination for those who take their wine and food seriously. The restaurant's own description says it best: "For hedonists and wine lovers!" This is not a place for the faint of appetite—it is a celebration of European cuisine, crafted with an unabashedly indulgent spirit.
The Michelin Guide has taken note, awarding Leijontornet a Recommended distinction, a nod to the quality and personality of the experience. The restaurant operates as a "gastro block," a concept that houses several distinct dining experiences under one roof. The Hedonist Wine Dining Rooms are the heart of the operation, open Tuesday through Saturday, where the focus is on pairing excellent wines with thoughtful, seasonal dishes.
For a more relaxed affair, the Oenothèque Bar & Hedonist Trattoria offers the same wine-forward philosophy in a less formal setting. When the weather cooperates, the Vinous Courtyard Restaurant opens its doors, though it is closed for the season until May 19. Until then, the full focus is on the indoor spaces, where counter dining and an interesting wine list are among the standout features.
Leijontornet also houses a Gastronomic Office and Test Kitchen, though these are by invite only, hinting at a deeper commitment to culinary exploration. For those who wish to linger, the Gastro Block Accommodation is always open, making it possible to stay overnight in the same building.
The tone here is one of conviviality and pleasure. There is no pretense, only a genuine love for wine and food shared in a setting that feels both historic and refreshingly direct.
