Omaka

A craft brewery and seasonal Nordic kitchen inside Stockholm's most brutalist building, serving Hedda Spendrup's beers and inventive small plates.

The story

Omaka – Craft Brewery & Nordic Kitchen on Östermalm, Stockholm

A Brewery Bar That Defies Its Address

Omaka occupies a street-level space in what many Stockholmers cheerfully describe as the city's ugliest building. Step through the concrete façade on Uggleviksgatan and the contrast is immediate: warm timber interiors, well-upholstered furniture, and a row of gleaming beer taps fronting a full brewery visible behind the bar. It is, as the White Guide put it in its 2026 edition — where Omaka earned a Very Fine Level recognition — a beer-filled oasis in the middle of fashionable Östermalm.

The Beer Is the Point

The taps pour craft beers brewed on the premises, all signed by Hedda Spendrup. The names are playful, the liquid is serious, and the gleaming copper-and-steel brewhouse rising behind the bar makes clear that this is no afterthought. Brewery tours can be booked alongside a table, and the bar itself is always open for walk-ins — making Omaka equally suited to a spontaneous after-work stop or a planned evening out.

The Kitchen Keeps Pace

The open kitchen works through small and medium plates built around seasonal Nordic produce, drawing on influences from near and far. The format rewards grazing and sharing, and pairs naturally with a progression of pours from the house brewery. This is emphatically not a Bierstube of pretzels and steins — the cooking holds its own as a reason to visit, not merely an accompaniment to the beer.

Practical Shape of an Evening

Omaka handles most bookings — dinner, lunch, brewery tours, large groups — through its standard reservation system, while also offering a private Chambre Séparée for more intimate gatherings and a bar space suited to after-work events and mingling. Outdoor seating rounds out the options when Stockholm's weather cooperates.

White Guide — Very fine level

Omaka is nicely located on the ground floor in what some consider Stockholm’s ugliest building. As a welcoming exception to the otherwise stark brutalist concrete facade, warm light from wooden interiors, comfortably upholstered designer furniture, and gleaming beer taps greet you. It is a beer-soaked oasis right in the heart of fashionable Östermalm. Yet it is far from a traditional beer hall complete with steins and pretzels. Here, they serve craft beers with playful names from the brewery that elegantly rises behind the bar, all crafted under the signature of Hedda Spendrup. The open kitchen works diligently on small and medium plates made from seasonal Nordic ingredients with influences from near and far.
