The story

Sensum Stockholm – Ambitious Neighbourhood Restaurant on Wallingatan

Sense and Sensibility on Wallingatan

The name says it all. Sensum is Latin for feeling, and from the moment you walk into this address on Wallingatan in central Stockholm, the experience is unmistakably emotional. Opened in January 2017 by Micke, Katta and Johan, Sensum set out to be an ambitious neighbourhood restaurant — and it has more than delivered on that promise, earning recognition from the White Guide in 2026 for what the guide calls a genuinely feeling-filled evening.

A Living European Menu

Sensum describes its cooking as a living European menu in constant evolution, built on the best seasonal ingredients, prepared traditionally but with imagination and feeling. In practice, that means the kitchen moves freely across culinary borders: the Mediterranean meets South America, which meets Asia, which circles back to Sweden. The White Guide's reviewer found soft-shell crab with sticky dirty rice and okra sitting alongside glazed chicken with watermelon, peanuts and chum soy, and a very Swedish stenbitsrom on struva. Bocherones on grilled sourdough with padrone, nduja and an almost freshly-caught anchovy fillet drew particular praise as a flavour sensation. Dessert brought freshly fried churros dusted with sugar, sweet-sharp glazed rhubarb and cardamom-scented vanilla ice cream.

The menu is complemented by a drinks programme taken just as seriously as the food. There is a natural wine list focused on France and the rest of Europe, craft beer, and a gin and tonic menu that runs several pages long — featuring Swedish, Norwegian and Japanese gins alongside house creations built around ingredients like black lime, jalapeño and citrus.

The Room and the People

The space is deliberately unfussy: a concrete-topped community table, a freestanding bar, and a mix of guests of all ages. Half of the sixty seats are kept permanently unreserved, so there is always room for a spontaneous visit — no booking, no set sitting time, just pull up a chair and let the hours pass. That philosophy is central to what Sensum is: a place where the waiter's passionate description of the snacks menu raises both expectations and spirits, where he bids farewell like an old friend before you have even finished eating.

Stockholm's press has taken notice consistently. Dagens Industri awarded 20/25 for finely composed small plates, DI Weekend gave 21/25 and praised the wine recommendations, and DN's Krogkommission highlighted the generous walk-in policy as a welcome rarity. The White Guide's "Very Fine Level" recognition in 2026 confirms what regulars already know: Sensum is one of Stockholm's most honest and pleasurable places to eat.

White Guide — Very fine level

Menus for the evening’s snacks and small plates, one for natural wines focusing on France and the rest of Europe, and one for gins and tonics – several pages long! They have really nerded out completely here. We laugh at both the names and descriptions and finally choose a “Navy Strength Cannonball”. In comes a huge glass with ice, Scottish gin, citrus, jalapeño, and black lime. The list features many Swedish gins, but also gins from Norway and Japan. Black lime also appears in several of the evening’s dishes, and we learn that roasted lime doubles the flavor of... lime. Sensum means feeling in Latin, and dining here is truly emotional. Even the deeply engaged waiter’s immersive presentation on how to navigate the snack and small plate menu elevates both expectations and spirits. We simply had to order the bocherones on grilled sourdough bread with padron peppers, nduja, and an anchovy fillet that tastes almost freshly caught – and he was right: it’s a taste sensation. This is followed by a crisp soft-shell crab with sticky “dirty” rice with okra, and glazed chicken with watermelon, peanuts, and chum soy. The small plates are crafted from carefully selected seasonal ingredients, prepared intuitively and with great passion. At Sensum, the Mediterranean meets South America, which meets Asia, which meets Sweden with stonefish roe on struva and perch garnished with chanterelles. The setting is simple and cozy, featuring a “community table” with a concrete top, a freestanding bar, and a lively mix of guests of all ages. The evening wraps up with the waiter thanking us and leaving before we’ve finished our meal, and we say goodbye like old friends. The grand finale is a – thank goodness – generous portion of freshly fried and lightly sugared churros, sweet and sour glazed rhubarb, and cardamom-scented vanilla ice cream.
